Patna: Weather conditions are expected to remain generally normal across Bihar on Wednesday, although several districts may receive rain as the day progresses. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in 21 districts but has not issued any weather alert for the state.
Bihar has received 42% less rainfall than normal so far this monsoon season due to weak monsoon activity. By August 25, the state should have received around 732 mm of rainfall, but only 425.4 mm has been recorded, according to weather data.
Rain recorded in Lakhisarai, Nalanda
During the past 24 hours, rainfall was reported in Lakhisarai and Nalanda. In Banka, 18-year-old Khushboo Kumari died after being struck by lightning.
Low-pressure system likely to influence Bihar weather
The change in weather is mainly linked to a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and northern Odisha. The system was active in the region until Monday afternoon.
A cyclonic circulation associated with the system extends up to around 7.6 km above sea level. The low-pressure system is expected to move towards the northwest through Jharkhand and northern Odisha over the next 24 hours.
The monsoon trough is also extending from northwest India to the Bay of Bengal through the low-pressure area. Under the influence of these weather systems, scattered rainfall activity is likely at several places across Bihar.
Patna may receive intermittent rain
Patna may witness intermittent rainfall today. However, residents are unlikely to get much relief from humid conditions. The weather department has also indicated that temperatures could rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius in most districts.
Despite the possibility of rain in several parts of the state, no weather alert has been issued so far.
