Patna: India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Bihar on Friday, warning of rainfall accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph and a possibility of lightning.
The alert covers the Seemanchal districts of Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia and Katihar. Weather conditions are expected to remain comparatively normal in the rest of the state.
More districts under alert on September 12
The weather is expected to remain generally normal across Bihar over the next few days, with adverse conditions likely to remain confined to selected districts.
A yellow alert has been issued for September 12 in Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka and Jamui.
For September 13, the alert covers Buxar, Bhojpur, Arwal, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Kaimur.
Rainfall activity continues
Several districts recorded rainfall over the past 24 hours. In Patna, intense sunshine led to humid conditions on Thursday, while the weather became more comfortable by night.
Light cloud cover and cool breezes were reported in several parts of the city on Friday morning. Similar conditions are expected to continue over the coming days.
Meteorologists have attributed the rainfall activity to a low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. A cyclonic circulation extends up to around 9.4km above sea level, while a trough stretches from northern Haryana through Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to the Bay of Bengal.
These weather systems are contributing to conditions favourable for rainfall over Bihar.
Flood crisis adds to weather concerns
Meanwhile, flood conditions remain severe in several parts of the state. Around 44 lakh people across 14 districts have been affected, with the administration continuing relief and rescue operations.
The state has received scanty rainfall this year, but several rivers remain swollen. The Ganga, Gandak and Punpun continue to be in spate, prolonging difficulties for communities in flood-affected areas.
With rainfall forecast in parts of Bihar over the next few days, authorities are continuing to monitor both the weather and flood situation.
