Patna: Weather conditions changed suddenly across parts of Bihar on Thursday evening, bringing rainfall and cooler winds to several districts. While heavy rain lashed the Seemanchal region’s Kishanganj district, Patna experienced pleasant weather as cool winds swept through the city.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts in northern and eastern Bihar are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and light rainfall between March 14 and March 16. The change in weather is expected to bring temporary relief from rising heat and humidity.
However, meteorologists said the relief is unlikely to last long. The state is expected to continue experiencing humid conditions, and strong sunshine during the daytime may still cause discomfort for residents in the coming days.
On Friday, the maximum temperature in many districts of Bihar is expected to remain between 34°C and 37°C.
Weather snapshots from districts
In Kishanganj, the weather changed abruptly on Thursday evening, leading to heavy rainfall in several areas.
In Madhubani, the morning began with light fog and partly cloudy skies.
Residents in Buxar also witnessed light fog during the early morning hours.
Yellow alert for rain in five districts
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for light rainfall in Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnia and Katihar districts. These areas may witness cloudy skies and light drizzle at isolated locations.
In the rest of the state, weather conditions are expected to remain largely normal. However, strong sunshine during the day could lead to rising temperatures and discomfort.
Why the weather is changing
Meteorologists attribute the current weather fluctuations to the influence of multiple weather systems affecting the region.
A Western Disturbance over northern India is impacting weather patterns, while moisture flowing in from the Bay of Bengal is also altering atmospheric conditions. The combined effect is leading to sudden cloud formation, gusty winds and light rainfall in some districts.
At the same time, most parts of the state continue to experience dry weather. Due to this mixed influence, temperatures are witnessing noticeable fluctuations.
Weather likely to change again from March 14
The weather department has forecast another spell of unstable weather between March 14 and March 16 in several districts of northern and eastern Bihar.
During this period, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and light rainfall are likely in parts of the Seemanchal and Kosi regions. Experts say the joint impact of the Western Disturbance and moisture from the Bay of Bengal is responsible for this change.
Light rainfall and strong winds during this period may bring a slight drop in temperature, offering some relief from heat and humidity.
Weather forecast for Patna
In Patna, partly cloudy skies are expected on Friday. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 33°C and 37°C, while the minimum temperature may hover around 23°C.
Residents may feel heat due to strong sunshine during the day, although occasional winds could provide slight relief.
