Patna: The southwest monsoon has strengthened further over Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting another round of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across large parts of the state on Tuesday, July 15.
According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre severe weather conditions are expected in several districts, particularly in north and eastern Bihar, where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been forecast.
Four Districts On Alert For Extremely Heavy Rain
The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in four districts:
- Darbhanga
- Katihar
- Purnia
- Supaul
Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert as prolonged rainfall could lead to waterlogging and localised flooding.
Heavy Rain Forecast In Nine More Districts
The weather office has also forecast heavy rainfall in parts of:
- Araria
- Banka
- Bhagalpur
- Jamui
- Kishanganj
- Madhepura
- Madhubani
- Saharsa
Officials said these districts could also experience thunderstorms and lightning during the day.
Thunderstorms And Strong Winds Expected
The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph across several districts in north and central Bihar.
The weather system is expected to affect Khagaria, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Vaishali, along with parts of south-central Bihar.
People have been advised to avoid open fields, stay away from trees and electric poles during thunderstorms, and seek shelter in safe buildings whenever lightning occurs.
Temperatures Likely To Fall
The active monsoon is also expected to bring relief from the recent humid conditions.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures may fall by 2°C to 4°C across many parts of Bihar over the next 48 hours, as persistent cloud cover and widespread rainfall continue.
The weather department has urged residents to keep track of official forecasts and exercise caution while travelling during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
