Saran: In a major push to strengthen higher education in rural Bihar, the Saran district administration will inaugurate nine new Government Degree Colleges across the district on July 15. The launch is expected to benefit thousands of students by improving access to higher education closer to their homes.

Preparations for the inauguration are underway, with District Magistrate (DM) Vaibhav Srivastava reviewing arrangements during a meeting with concerned officials on Monday. He directed departments to complete all pending work well before the launch and ensure smooth conduct of the inaugural ceremonies.

Focus on Public Participation

The DM instructed officials to ensure maximum participation of local public representatives, academicians, teachers, parents and students in the inauguration programmes. Invitations are to be sent in advance so that the events witness broad community participation.

Officials have also been asked to inspect their respective college campuses and complete all necessary arrangements. The district administration has placed special emphasis on improving basic infrastructure before the colleges begin functioning.

Infrastructure and Civic Facilities Prioritised

The DM directed officials to address waterlogging issues at college campuses through earth filling and other civil works wherever required.

He also instructed authorities to ensure the availability of essential facilities, including clean toilets, safe drinking water, proper sanitation, nameplates and signage boards at all campuses.

The District Planning Officer has been tasked with installing foundation plaques at all nine colleges, which will be unveiled by local public representatives during the inauguration.

Celebration Without Disrupting Classes

To create a festive atmosphere, officials have been directed to decorate college campuses with flowers and balloons. The inauguration programme will begin with the national song, national anthem, the Bihar state song and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by addresses from public representatives.

The DM clarified that no separate tents or pandals would be erected for the events. Instead, the ceremonies will be held inside college classrooms to ensure that regular academic activities are not disrupted.

Nine Blocks to Get New Degree Colleges

The new Government Degree Colleges will begin operations in the blocks of Ishuapur, Dariapur, Ekma, Mashrakh, Marhaura, Maker, Taraiya, Lahladpur and Panapur from July 15.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to higher education for students in rural areas, reducing their dependence on distant urban colleges and providing better educational opportunities within their local communities.

Senior Leaders to Attend Inauguration

The DM directed officials to make special arrangements in Dariapur and Maker, where senior government dignitaries are expected to attend the inauguration ceremonies.

Deputy Chief Minister and District In-charge Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav will participate in the event at Dariapur, while Saran District In-charge Secretary and Rural Development Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar will attend the inauguration in Maker. Officials have been instructed to ensure that all arrangements at both venues are completed on time without any shortcomings.
