Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for thunderstorms, rainfall and lightning across 32 districts of Bihar for Thursday, May 28, warning of strong winds and adverse weather conditions in large parts of the state.
A Yellow Alert remains in effect for the remaining six districts.
Officials said weather conditions across Bihar are expected to remain unstable throughout Thursday, with rainfall activity likely to continue in several regions.
Patna Likely to Receive Rain for Two Days
In Patna, rainfall is forecast over the next two days, with easterly winds expected to bring temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave.
The capital recorded a drop of 3.5C in maximum temperature on Wednesday, with the mercury settling at 35C.
Partial cloud cover over Patna and several other districts also helped reduce the intensity of the heat during the day.
However, intense heat conditions continued in parts of South Bihar.
Dehri emerged as the hottest location in the state on Wednesday, recording a maximum temperature of 43.1C.

The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms, rainfall and lightning in the following districts:

- Patna

- Sheikhpura
- Lakhisarai
- Jamui
- Munger
- Banka
- Bhagalpur
- Khagaria
- Begusarai
- Saharsa
- Madhepura
- Supaul
- Araria
- Kishanganj
- Katihar
- Purnia
Officials said wind speeds may reach 40–50 km/h in some locations.
Heavy Rainfall Warning for Several Districts
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated locations in:
- Bhagalpur
- Purnia
- Banka
- Katihar
- West Champaran
- Gopalganj
Temperatures Fall Across Bihar
A fall in daytime temperatures was recorded in at least 20 cities across Bihar over the past 24 hours.
Madhubani witnessed the sharpest decline, with the maximum temperature dropping by 6.4C within a single day.
The district recorded daytime temperatures below 30C on Wednesday.
Meteorologists said moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal have helped moderate temperatures across the state.
Low-Pressure Area Influencing Bihar Weather
According to the IMD, a low-pressure system extending from South Bihar to the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh region, along with another trough stretching from North Bihar to South Telangana, is influencing weather patterns across eastern India.
Under the impact of these systems, Bihar is expected to continue witnessing dynamic weather conditions over the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has already issued another Orange Alert for thunderstorms and rain across the state, including Patna, for the period between May 29 and May 30.

- Puraini (Madhepura): 56 mm
- Jhanjharpur (Madhubani): 51.6 mm
- Bhagalpur: 49 mm
- Beldaur (Khagaria): 40.8 mm
- Katihar: 40.2 mm
- Teghra (Begusarai): 38.6 mm
- Basopatti (Madhubani): 37.2 mm
- Nath Nagar (Bhagalpur): 35.4 mm
- Manihari (Katihar): 33.2 mm
- Bisphi (Madhubani): 33 mm
- Jamalpur (Munger): 32 mm
- Barauni: 31.2 mm
- Barari (Katihar): 30.2 mm
