Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and strong winds in 12 districts of Bihar, warning that wind speeds could reach up to 60 kmph and that lightning strikes remain a possibility.
The alert comes as the southwest monsoon continues to advance across the state, bringing increased cloud activity and the likelihood of rainfall in several regions over the coming days.
Meteorologists said the weather is expected to remain unstable in the districts covered by the alert, while the rest of Bihar remains in the green zone with no weather warnings currently in force.
Hot Conditions Likely To Persist
Despite the possibility of rainfall, temperatures are expected to remain elevated.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures across much of the state are likely to range between 36C and 38C, leading to hot and humid conditions during the afternoon hours.
In Patna, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy on Saturday, with the maximum temperature forecast to reach around 38C and the minimum temperature hovering near 29C.
The weather department expects largely clear conditions on June 15, although some cloud cover may develop during the afternoon.
Rain Chances Increase Next Week
Partly cloudy skies are forecast for Patna on June 16 and 17, with the possibility of light rainfall and lightning activity.
Maximum temperatures during this period are expected to remain close to 37C.
Officials said cloud formation and rainfall activity are likely to increase as the monsoon progresses further into the state.
Residents in districts covered by the alert have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and remain cautious during periods of strong winds and lightning.
Monsoon Set To Cover Entire Bihar
According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly and is expected to cover the entire state within the next three days.
At present, the northern limit of the monsoon is passing through Muzaffarpur.
Meteorologists said rainfall activity is likely to intensify across several districts once the monsoon becomes fully active, potentially bringing greater relief from the heat that has affected many parts of Bihar in recent weeks.
The IMD has urged residents to monitor weather updates and follow safety advisories, particularly in areas vulnerable to thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
