Bagaha/Patna: A 55-year-old farmer was killed in a suspected tiger attack while working in his field in Bagaha, West Champaran district, prompting the forest department to launch an operation to trace and capture the animal.
The victim, identified as Mathura Mahato, was reportedly attacked on Wednesday while working in his agricultural field. His body was later found a short distance away with signs that it had been partially consumed.
Forest Worker Injured During Operation
Forest department personnel reached the area after receiving information about the attack. During the operation, the tiger reportedly attacked again, injuring a forest department worker.
The injured employee was taken to hospital for treatment. Officials have not disclosed the extent of the injuries.
Search Operation Underway
According to forest officials, patrols have been intensified in and around the affected villages. A tracking team has been deployed and cages have been installed in an effort to capture the tiger.
Authorities suspect the animal may have strayed from the nearby Valmiki Tiger Reserve into the populated area.
Residents said they had noticed the tiger’s movement in the area before the attack and had alerted the authorities.
