Rohtas: Police have identified the woman whose body was discovered in a trolley bag near the vegetable market on Station Road, in the jurisdiction of Nagar police station, as Mehrun Khatoon, a 25-year-old resident of Batghi village in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh.
Mehrun Khatoon, who married Mohammad Qiyamuddin of Jakki Bigha, Dehri, in November 2022, had been living with her in-laws after the marriage, according to SDPO and Cyber Police Station DSP Gaurav Kumar Yadav.
The victim’s mother and other family members identified the body at the Sasaram post-mortem house in evening. Following the identification, the family accused Qiyamuddin and other members of his family of murdering Mehrun Khatoon.
According to the family, the alleged motive for the killing was Mehrun Khatoon’s opposition to her husband’s extramarital affair with his aunt’s sister, which frequently caused disputes between the couple. The night before her body was discovered, Qiyamuddin reportedly informed her family that she had run away from home. The following day, they were shocked to learn of her death.
The family also raised concerns over the accused family’s history of violence, noting that Qiyamuddin’s mother had previously been killed by her brother-in-law. Since the discovery of Mehrun Khatoon’s body, the house has been locked and the family members are reportedly absconding, leaving neighbours in fear.
On instructions from SP Roshan Kumar, a special police team has been formed to arrest Qiyamuddin and other suspects. Police said raids are ongoing at possible hideouts and assured that all involved in the murder will be apprehended soon.
