Patna: The Bihar State Women’s Commission has said it will take cognisance of allegations made by Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad, who has accused her brother, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, and two others of assault.
Speaking to reporters, Apsara Mishra, chairperson of the Women’s Commission, said Rohini had described being “hit with slippers” and enduring “humiliation and harassment” at the hands of her family. “Her pain has been expressed through posts and statements, but not a single word has been expressed by her family,” Mishra added.
The Commission confirmed that if Rohini files an official complaint, it will take immediate action. If the situation worsens, it could also act suo motu, Mishra said, signalling the body’s readiness to intervene independently should the harassment escalate.
The allegations came a day after the RJD faced a major defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections on November 14. On November 15, Rohini posted on Twitter that she was leaving politics and severing ties with her family. In her statement, she named Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, close associates of Tejashwi Yadav, alleging that they exerted pressure and were responsible for her mistreatment. That evening, she left her residence visibly distressed.
Speaking to reporters, Rohini said, “I have no family. They are the ones who expelled me. The whole world is asking why the party has reached this state, but they refuse to take responsibility.” She also accused Tejashwi Yadav’s associates of threatening her with physical abuse if she asked questions about the party’s affairs.
