Patna: The corridors of NIFT Patna transformed into an art-filled space as Semester 3 students of the Fashion Communication programme presented their calligraphy exhibition after completing a focused workshop. What was usually a place buzzing with digital design projects became an area where the quiet beauty of handwritten lettering captured attention. The event highlighted that even today, the handcrafted word has emotional strength and visual value.
The exhibition, titled “A Brushstroke of Brilliance – Strokes of Diversity”, featured a rich mix of calligraphic styles. Students proudly displayed the sharp discipline of Copperplate, the graceful lines of Italic and the free-flowing style of modern lettering. Each piece reflected the student’s personal connection to the art form, making the collection diverse and refreshing to look at.
Through the workshop, students developed skills in three major directions. First, they improved their technical control — working on line weight, pressure and composition through repeated hands-on practice. Next, they explored how calligraphy can express feelings and ideas, showing that writing can tell a story rather than just decorate a page. Finally, they recognised the real role of calligraphy in the professional world — especially in branding, magazine layouts, packaging, visual merchandising and other communication needs of the fashion industry.
The exhibition attracted praise from teachers, students and visitors for its high standard of creativity and execution. It became a reminder of NIFT Patna’s efforts to include strong artistic foundations in its curriculum, preparing students for design careers where visual communication matters deeply. Overall, the project showed that even in a world of screens and digital tools, the elegance of traditional handwriting continues to inspire and hold meaning.
