Patna: The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for 20 districts of Bihar for Sunday, warning of rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning activity across several parts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Department, wind speeds between 40 and 50 kmph are likely in the affected districts, accompanied by light rainfall and possible lightning strikes.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Pre-Monsoon Activity Intensifying Across Bihar
Meteorologists said pre-monsoon activity was gradually strengthening across Bihar, creating favourable conditions for:
- cloud formation
- thunderstorms
- gusty winds
- intermittent rainfall
Officials added that the remaining 18 districts of the state currently remain in the “Green Zone”, where weather conditions are expected to stay relatively stable.

Patna To Continue Facing Heat And Humidity
Despite scattered rainfall activity in parts of Bihar, no significant relief from heat is expected in Patna over the next four days.
The Meteorological Department forecast:
- a maximum temperature of 37°C on Sunday
- temperatures rising to 38°C on May 18 and 19
- temperatures touching 39°C on May 20
Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 26°C and 27°C.
Officials said partly cloudy skies combined with high humidity and intense sunshine could create uncomfortable and oppressive conditions, especially during evenings and nights.
Monsoon Likely To Arrive Early
The Meteorological Department also indicated that the southwest monsoon could arrive in Bihar earlier than usual this year.
According to current forecasts, the monsoon may reach Bihar between June 8 and June 10, whereas its normal onset period falls between June 12 and June 15.
Officials further stated that the monsoon is expected to reach Kerala by May 26 — nearly five days ahead of schedule.
Meteorologists said the evolving weather pattern across eastern India reflected strengthening moisture flow and increasing pre-monsoon instability across the region.
