Patna: The Bihar government is planning a major step to improve job opportunities for the state’s youth by introducing the World Skills Center model for skill development. Under this plan, young people will receive training based on international standards, making them ready for modern industries and overseas employment. A proposal is currently being prepared, and officials say the focus will be on providing practical and future-oriented skills rather than only theoretical education.
The new training model will include advanced and modern skills such as artificial intelligence, drone technology, electric vehicles and 3D printing. These skills are increasingly important in today’s global job market. The Labour Resources Department has shown strong interest in the World Skills Center already functioning in Bhubaneswar and wants to implement a similar system in Bihar. With the formation of the Department of Youth Employment and Skills, the state aims to give special attention to skill-based education and employment for young people.
The Bihar Skills Development Mission will play a key role in implementing this plan. Training programmes will be designed according to global benchmarks so that students from Bihar can compete with skilled workers from other countries. Officials believe this initiative will help the youth convert their academic potential into real job opportunities. Many young people from Bihar already perform well in competitive exams, and this programme is expected to further strengthen their career prospects.
According to Deepak Anand, secretary of the Labour Resources Department, the new model will also provide opportunities for selected students to go abroad every year under a student exchange programme. This will allow them to receive international-level vocational training and gain industry exposure. The government also plans to introduce finishing school training for ITI and diploma holders, along with special training programmes for teachers to improve the quality of skill education.
The proposed plan includes setting up three major academic faculties. The engineering faculty will focus on areas such as mechatronics, electrical work, air conditioning and refrigeration, and precision engineering. The School of Services will offer courses in fields like culinary arts, beauty and wellness, digital media and hair fashion. In addition, an academy faculty will work on improving the skills of trainers through modern teaching and assessment methods.
A modern Learning Resource Center will also be established to support students enrolled in skill development programmes. Life skills and employment-related training will be made compulsory for all participants. The centre will include a well-equipped digital library, access to online learning resources and virtual reality facilities, helping students gain practical knowledge and confidence for future jobs.
