Patna: The Bihar government’s newly launched Artist Registration Portal has received an overwhelming response from the state’s creative community, with 1,368 artists registering within just two and a half months.
Launched on April 15 by Motilal Prasad, Minister of Art, Culture and Youth Department, the portal aims to empower artists by offering them a digital identity to access various government schemes and opportunities. So far, 65 applications have been rejected due to technical errors.
Madhubani district has recorded the highest number of registrations with 225 artists signing up, followed by Saharsa with 166 applications. In the state capital Patna, 41 artists have registered.
The initiative is being seen as a significant step in preserving Bihar’s rich cultural heritage while ensuring that artists engaged in classical, folk, contemporary, visual and performing arts are provided with a strong platform for recognition and growth. The online registration process is designed to be mobile-friendly and user-centric. Each registered artist receives a unique ID, which will be mandatory for participating in government awards, training programmes, and cultural events.
The portal is also linked to the Chief Minister Artist Pension Scheme under which artists aged above 50 years with an annual income below Rs 1,20,000 can receive pensions. To access this benefit, artists must be registered on the portal and provide proof of experience in their art form.
Officials say the initiative is not only bringing recognition to local artists but also injecting new energy into Bihar’s cultural traditions.
