Patna: In a significant development for the education sector in Bihar, a whopping sum of Rs 272 crore has been earmarked for the construction of new and additional classrooms in 71 thousand primary schools across the state. The Central Government has pledged this amount as part of its central share for the upcoming financial year. This initiative stems from a proposal put forth by KK Pathak’s Education Department, which has now received the green light from the Center.
Apart from the construction of classrooms, schools will also benefit from the procurement of essential amenities such as painting, minor repairs, lights, fans, printers, and furniture. In the ongoing financial year 2023-24, the Education Department had initially proposed the addition of two extra classrooms in 30,435 primary schools.
Furthermore, a crucial decision has been taken regarding the integration of smart classes into the education system. The proposal includes the construction of three classrooms each in 29 thousand middle schools and the establishment of two smart classes in 2,379 secondary schools. This move is part of the Unnayan Bihar Project, with a provision for the construction of two smart classes in selected secondary and higher secondary schools.
The approval for the construction of two smart classes in these selected schools signifies a step towards modernizing the education system in Bihar. A total of Rs 115 crore has been allocated for the implementation of this project, with funds set to be disbursed to the designated schools in April. Smart classes will revolutionize the learning experience by leveraging technology, with children being taught through computers and projectors. Additionally, software tailored to the course material will be provided to enhance the educational process.
