Bihar’s First Inland Container Depot Opens in Bihta, Boosting Export and Import Logistics
Patna: Bihar Industries Minister Nitish Mishra inaugurated the state’s first Dry Port and Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Bihta, near Patna, on Monday. The new facility is expected to enhance logistics by offering warehousing, customs services, and multi-modal transport solutions.
Mishra hailed the launch as a milestone for Bihar’s industrial sector. “This is a significant day for the state. Until now, exporters and importers in Bihar had to travel thousands of kilometres to other states for customs clearance. With the establishment of ICD Bihta, they will now have access to these services locally, allowing them to compete more effectively in global markets,” he said.
The Inland Container Depot has been approved by the Ministry of Finance’s Revenue Department. According to a senior official from the Bihar Industries Department, it is well connected by rail to key ports such as Kolkata, Haldia, Visakhapatnam, and Mundra. The ICD Bihta will serve as a comprehensive solution for the state’s importers and exporters, providing modern warehousing, customs, and transportation facilities.
