Begusarai: BJP district executive committee member Dilip Singh was injured after being shot by unidentified assailants in Tribhuvan Tola, Dhusmuri Bisanpur, under the Gangaur police station limits on Friday afternoon. The bullet grazed his shoulder, leaving him seriously hurt.
Local residents rushed the leader to Sadar Hospital for immediate treatment. After first aid, doctors referred him to Begusarai for further medical care, where he is currently admitted.
According to sources, Singh, a resident of Labhgaon, was returning home from Dhusmuri Bisanpur when the attack took place. While he stopped to speak with someone in Tribhuvan Tola, two motorcycle-borne criminals approached and fired at him from close range. He attempted to block the attack with his hands, causing the bullet to strike his shoulder instead.
Police officials said Singh has been involved in land dealing and water tax operations, indicating that the assault may be linked to a dispute over financial or land-related matters.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar, who inspected the crime scene and spoke to witnesses, said a preliminary probe has been launched and all angles are being examined. “Evidence is being collected. An FIR will be registered once we receive the family’s written complaint. The accused will be arrested soon,” he assured.
Additional officers including ASP and Sadar SDPO-2 P.N. Sahu, along with Gangaur Police Station in-charge Ajay Kumar, also reached the spot for further investigation.
As of late Friday evening, the victim’s family had not yet submitted an FIR. Police continue to investigate the case and search for the attackers.
