Patna: A luxury BMW caught fire on Patna’s Marine Drive late Tuesday night, turning into a blaze within minutes and causing panic among commuters on the busy stretch.
The incident temporarily disrupted traffic movement as flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle before emergency services arrived.
Sudden Smoke and Rapid Escalation
According to eyewitness accounts, smoke began emerging from the front portion of the car while it was on the road. Within seconds, the fire intensified and spread across the vehicle.
Commuters travelling on both sides of Marine Drive stopped their vehicles, leading to congestion and a brief traffic standstill.
Several bystanders recorded videos and attempted to assist, but the intensity of the blaze made any immediate intervention impossible.
Firefighting Response
A passerby alerted the Fire Department, following which a team from the Lodipur Fire Station reached the spot. Officials took approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
By the time the flames were extinguished, the front section of the vehicle had been completely gutted.
Preliminary Assessment
Indrajit Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer of the Fire Department, said the incident occurred late at night and the cause is under investigation.
He added that initial observations suggest a possible technical malfunction or the presence of flammable materials inside the vehicle, though no conclusion has been reached.
No Casualties Reported
Authorities confirmed that no one was inside the car at the time of the incident, preventing any injuries or fatalities.
Police and fire officials are now attempting to trace the vehicle owner and are examining the exact cause of the fire.
The incident briefly disrupted traffic on Marine Drive and raised concerns over emergency preparedness on one of Patna’s key urban corridors.
