Boat Sinks in Ganga River Near Under-Construction Bridge in Bihar; Two Missing

Hajipur: A boat sank in the Ganga River late last night after colliding with pier number 55 of the under-construction six-lane bridge at Kacchi Dargah Bidupur, located in the Rustampur police station area of Vaishali district, Bihar. Two individuals on board are reported missing.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm, prompting local residents to gather on the riverbank. Upon receiving the news, they immediately alerted the Rustampur police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Rustampur Police Station Chief, Dharmendra Kumar, arrived at the scene to gather details from eyewitnesses. A rescue operation is currently underway, with local divers and the SDRF team searching for the missing individuals.

According to police, the boat was carrying approximately 150 sacks of cannabis and other illegal goods from Kala Diara in Patna to Terasiya, located in the Ganga Bridge police station area. Five people, including the sailor, were on board when the boat lost control and collided with the pier, causing it to sink.

Three individuals managed to swim to safety, but two others—identified as Awadhesh Rai and Rakesh Kumar, both residents of Terasiya Panchayat in the Ganga Bridge police station area—remain missing. Efforts to locate them are ongoing.

Rustampur Police Station Chief Dharmendra Kumar confirmed the incident, stating, “A boat has been reported to have collided with a pier and sunk near pier number 55 of the under-construction six-lane bridge at Kacchi Dargah Bidupur. Two persons on the boat are reported missing. The search is on.”
