Rajgir: The spirit of enlightenment and non-aggression echoed through the halls of Nalanda University, Rajgir, as the Bodhgaya Global Dialogues 2024 commenced at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium on Saturday. The event, inaugurated by Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, aims to foster inclusive and integrated perspectives for the future of society.

In his address, Governor Arlekar emphasized the historical significance of Bodh Gaya, highlighting its role as a beacon of compassion and non-violence. He expressed optimism that the discussions at the Bodhgaya Dialogue would provide guidance for the society moving forward, echoing the ethos of inclusivity and knowledge over power.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University, who underscored the importance of a unified Bharat in realizing the ideals of “One Earth. One Family. One Future.” Prof. Singh called for a comprehensive historiography that transcends fragmented narratives, advocating for a holistic understanding of interconnected landscapes and regions.

The 6th edition of the Bodhgaya Global Dialogues, a collaborative initiative between Nalanda University and Deshkaal Society, focuses on the historical heritage of Bodhgaya, Rajgir, and Nalanda, exploring their contributions to the knowledge tradition. Distinguished guests including Lieutenant General P.S. Minhas, IIM Bodhgaya’s director Professor Vineeta S. Sahay, Dr. D.M. Mule, and, Dr. Goutami Bhattacharya, superintending archaeologist of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)’s Patna circle graced the inaugural session.

This two-day event aims to bridge disciplines such as Archaeology, History, and Art to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of Buddhism. Through Plenary Sessions, Panel Discussions, Book Launches, and Cultural Evenings, participants from diverse backgrounds will engage in enriching dialogue and exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of Buddhist philosophy and heritage.
