Patna: A bomb attack rocked Patna University’s Darbhanga House campus on Wednesday, targeting the car of Sanskrit Department Head, Professor Laxmi Narayan. The explosion caused significant damage to the vehicle, triggering panic among students and faculty. A video of the incident has surfaced, showing a group of students outside the campus. In the footage, one individual is seen running and throwing a cotton bomb before fleeing the scene.
The incident took place in the Pirbahor police station area, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. While the exact motive remains unclear, police are probing whether the attack stemmed from personal enmity or was part of a larger conspiracy to incite unrest on campus.
Following the attack, Patna police cordoned off the area and began questioning suspects present near the campus. Town ASP Diksha confirmed that authorities are analyzing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator. “The accused will be arrested soon based on the footage. It appears to have resulted from a fight, and a cotton bomb was used. Further investigation is underway,” she stated.
The attack has created an atmosphere of fear among students and faculty, who have urged the university administration and police to enhance security measures. Officials assure that all angles are being examined, and important developments are expected soon.
The bombing comes just weeks before the Patna University student union elections, scheduled for March 29. Voting for all posts will take place from 8 AM to 2 PM, with counting set to begin at 4 PM. Results are expected to be announced by late evening. The Vice Chancellor had officially declared the election schedule on Tuesday.
Authorities are now investigating whether the attack has any links to campus politics as tensions rise ahead of the polls.
