Patna: BR Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) has recorded a significant sporting achievement, combining the successful hosting of the East Zone Inter-University Volleyball Championship with a long-awaited qualification of its men’s team for the Super League after nearly four decades.
The championship, hosted by BRABU for the second consecutive year, concluded with KIIT Bhubaneswar emerging as winners, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith finishing runners-up, and the host university placing among the top four teams. Officials and participating institutions praised BRABU’s organisation of the tournament, citing smooth coordination and improved infrastructure.

More notably for the hosts, BRABU’s men’s volleyball team secured a Super League berth for the first time since 1985, ending a 40-year absence from the elite tier of inter-university competition. University officials described the achievement as a turning point for collegiate sport in the region.
Vice-chancellor Dinesh Chandra Rai said the twin successes reflected sustained investment in sports development and administration. “Hosting a national-level championship efficiently, while also achieving sporting success, shows what students and institutions can accomplish with consistent support,” he said.
The Super League qualification will allow BRABU to compete in next year’s All India Inter-University Championship and the Khelo India University Games, marking the university’s return to the national competitive stage. The trophy and medal distribution ceremony was chaired by Rai, with Rakesh Kumar, deputy inspector general of the Central Reserve Police Force, Muzaffarpur, attending as the chief guest. University officials, sports administrators, and faculty members were also present.
Rai thanked the organising committee, coaches, players, and volunteers, reiterating the university’s commitment to strengthening sports culture and opportunities for students across disciplines.
