Patna: A young man returning from Delhi to attend his sister’s wedding was beaten to death by a group of assailants in Danapur, Patna, on Thursday, prompting protests from his family and local residents.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Bittu, also known as Palkiya, was attacked near the Takiyapar police outpost. According to police, a group of 20 to 25 youths dragged him from a tea stall where he was sitting and repeatedly struck him with bricks, stones, sticks, and iron rods. He was rushed to a private hospital in Patna but succumbed to his injuries late Thursday night.
On Friday morning, family members and neighbours staged a protest on the Danapur–Gandhi Maidan road, placing Bittu’s body in the middle of the street and setting fire to objects, effectively halting traffic for around two hours. Demonstrators demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. Police intervened to control the situation and convinced the protesters to disperse.
Bittu’s mother, overcome with grief, questioned the motive behind the attack. “What crime did my son commit that he was killed so brutally?” she said. “The road blockade will continue until all the accused are arrested.” His maternal grandmother described Bittu as the family’s cherished favourite, noting he had returned from Delhi just three days earlier to attend his sister’s wedding.
Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj, station house officer of Takiyapar police outpost, confirmed that a case has been registered and that raids are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
