Buxar/Patna: Police in Buxar have arrested the nephew of a former Member of Parliament after allegedly finding him under the influence of alcohol during a late-night vehicle check.
Sudhir Singh, the nephew of former Prabhu Nath Singh, was taken into custody on Saturday night by officers from the Industrial police station in Buxar. Police said an FIR has been registered against him under provisions of the state’s prohibition law as well as for allegedly defying police orders and attempting to intimidate officers.
According to Suresh Kumar, station house officer of the Industrial police station, police teams were conducting routine vehicle checks near the Ganga bridge when a black Innova car arriving from the direction of Uttar Pradesh was stopped for inspection.
During the check, officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from one of the occupants of the vehicle. The man was detained and later identified himself as Sudhir Singh.
Police said Singh allegedly tried to use his political connections to pressure officers after revealing that he was related to the former MP. Officers subsequently arrested him and brought him to the police station.
According to the SHO, Singh continued to misbehave with police personnel even after being taken into custody. In addition to charges under the state’s Excise Act, police have also filed a case against him for allegedly disobeying official orders and attempting to threaten officers.
Officials said that after news of the arrest spread, some individuals approached the police station and attempted to exert pressure for his release. However, police said they refused to yield and proceeded with the legal process.
