Patna: The government of Bihar is expanding electricity infrastructure around Patna in an effort to ensure uninterrupted power supply as the city continues to grow.
As part of the initiative, Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU) is constructing a new electricity network in the outskirts of the capital with capacity estimated to be nearly ten times the current requirement.
Several new power substations have already been established in areas including Sampatchak, Khemnichak, Bariya, Asopur and Bhusaula. Work on additional infrastructure projects in nearby areas is currently under way.
Officials said new grid systems have also been constructed in these localities while existing grid infrastructure is being upgraded to support future demand.
Rapid urban expansion
The expansion has been planned in response to the rapid urban development occurring across several emerging zones around the city.
Among the key growth corridors are the stretch between RPS More and Saguna More extending towards Danapur, the area surrounding AIIMS Patna in Phulwari, the neighbourhood around Garikhana in Khagaul, the corridor between Zero Mile and Ramachak Bariya, and localities near Khemnichak and Sampatchak.
Many of these areas were previously considered part of rural Patna but have seen rapid development in recent years as the city expands outward.
Numerous residential colonies and apartment complexes have already been completed in these zones, while many more housing projects are currently under construction.
Planning for future demand
Officials estimate that the population in these areas could increase significantly over the next two decades as urban expansion continues.
According to projections cited by authorities, the population in these localities may quadruple within the next decade and potentially increase tenfold over the next 20 to 25 years.
To accommodate this anticipated growth, the electricity network being developed is designed with capacity far beyond current demand to ensure reliable supply for future residential and commercial needs.
