Patna: Bihar has stepped up the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit directing officials to achieve all targets under the rooftop solar scheme by November 2026 in a “campaign mode”.
The directive was issued during a review meeting held via video conference on Monday, where senior officials assessed the progress of the centrally sponsored programme aimed at expanding rooftop solar installations across the state.
Over Four Lakh Beneficiaries Registered
Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), Ajay Yadav, informed the meeting that installation of mounting structures has begun at project sites with support from district administrations.
He said that while the state has set a target of 2.50 lakh installations, details of 4,03,952 beneficiaries have already been uploaded to the scheme’s portal.
Officials said the larger database is expected to help accelerate installations and ensure eligible households receive the benefits of the scheme.
ITI-Trained Workforce Deployed
To support timely implementation, the Energy Department has prepared a district-wise list of 4,155 ITI-trained technical personnel, which has been shared with project developers.
The government said the move is intended to ensure adequate skilled manpower for rooftop solar installations across Bihar.
Focus On Monitoring And Coordination
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasised the need for continuous monitoring, close coordination among departments and timely delivery of benefits to eligible consumers.
Officials expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by district administrations, distribution companies and implementing agencies would enable the state to meet its November 2026 target.
The meeting was attended by North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) Managing Director Rahul Kumar, South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) Managing Director Saurav Jorwal, and district magistrates from across the state.
Vendors Asked To Speed Up Installations
A separate review meeting was also held with vendors and implementing agencies associated with the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Chaired by Energy Secretary Ajay Yadav, the meeting reviewed Pre-Dispatch Inspection (PDI), installation progress and operational challenges affecting implementation.
Officials directed vendors to increase the pace of installations, ensure full compliance with quality standards and complete pending work within the prescribed timelines.
The Energy Department also warned that action would be taken under applicable rules against vendors who fail to achieve the expected progress under the scheme.
