Jehanabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, with a team visiting the student’s native village in Jehanabad on Sunday and questioning her family for nearly three hours. Officials said the visit was part of efforts to gather first-hand accounts and examine evidence as the central agency takes over the case from the state’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).
According to sources, the CBI team was led by an officer of Inspector General (IG) rank and focused on collecting detailed information about the student’s background, recent activities, and events leading up to her death. Investigators also inspected parts of the family home and reviewed documents and materials provided by relatives. Officials assured the family that the investigation would be conducted impartially and based strictly on available evidence.
The student’s family had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the SIT probe, alleging a lack of transparency and raising concerns about the direction of the investigation. Following the transfer of the case to the CBI, family members said they felt reassured and expressed confidence that the central agency would conduct a fair inquiry. They said they now expect accountability and strict action against anyone found responsible.
The development comes a day after the CBI team inspected Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna, where the student had been residing. The inspection, which lasted more than three hours, was conducted in the presence of SIT officials and the investigating officer, Secretariat SDPO Dr Annu. Investigators examined the student’s room, entry and exit points of the hostel, and the surrounding premises to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials also reviewed CCTV footage and were briefed on the timeline of the student’s movements, including her arrival at the hostel, entry into her room, and the reported deterioration of her health. During the search, the CBI seized five sacks containing notebooks, documents, clothing, and other materials, which are expected to undergo forensic examination. The agency is continuing its investigation to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the cause and circumstances of the student’s death.
