Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation has widened its inquiry into the death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, summoning members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that conducted the initial probe.
Officers who were part of the SIT were questioned on Tuesday as the federal agency seeks to reconstruct the sequence of events following the student’s death. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the CBI also conducted detailed questioning of the station house officer (SHO) of Kadamkuan police station, Secretariat SDPO-1 Dr Anu Kumari, and the SHO of Ramakrishna Nagar police station.
Statements were recorded separately to enable investigators to independently verify accounts and cross-check testimonies.
The agency is understood to be examining the initial handling of the case, including the condition of the scene, the collection and preservation of evidence, and the procedural steps taken by local police. Investigators are seeking clarity on the basis for early conclusions and whether there were any lapses in the SIT’s inquiry.
The CBI is reviewing the case chronologically in an effort to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the student’s death. Since taking over the investigation, the agency has questioned family members and gathered information from suspended inspector Hemant Jha, who had been associated with Chitragupta Nagar and Kadamkuan police stations. The CBI has not issued an official statement on the progress of the investigation.
