Rajgir: Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar visited Nalanda University on Monday and held discussions with Vice-Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi and faculty members on strengthening academic engagement with democratic institutions.
Kumar was received by Chaturvedi and toured the university campus during his visit. He appreciated the university’s initiatives in net-zero sustainability, Sahabhagita, academic excellence and international engagement.
Call For Course On Democracy
Highlighting the historical significance of the region, Kumar drew a connection between Vaishali’s democratic tradition and ancient Nalanda’s legacy as a centre of learning.
He suggested that the new Nalanda University should introduce a course focusing on democracy and electoral studies, linking the region’s historical traditions with contemporary academic research.
Proposal For Collaboration With IIIDEM
Kumar also proposed academic collaboration between Nalanda University and the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM).
The proposed collaboration could include academic and logistical support from IIIDEM, along with tailored courses and programmes focusing on electoral democracy.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore avenues for academic collaboration and knowledge exchange between Nalanda University and institutions working in the field of democracy and election management.
Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
