Patna: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved 10 infrastructure projects worth Rs 675 crore in Bihar, aimed at strengthening road connectivity across eight districts.

State road construction minister Nitin Nabin said the schemes, sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), would support the state government’s push to modernise transport networks and improve access to remote regions.

“The approval of such a huge amount by the Government of India is a big step towards fulfilling the prime minister’s vision of placing Bihar among developed states,” Nabin said, while thanking Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari for clearing the proposals.

The projects span Buxar, Saran, Nawada, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Araria, Purnia and East Champaran. They include road widening, strengthening and a new bridge, which officials say will reduce travel time, improve rural-urban connectivity and boost trade.

Key works include a 30km road from Araria’s Jaynagar to the India–Nepal border at Ghurna, costing Rs 135 crore; upgrades to 17km of road linking Bhagalpur to Kotwali via Gora Dih, at Rs 80 crore; and the widening of 12.5km of the Ramnagar–Motipur Khaira road in Madhubani, at Rs 72 crore. Smaller projects cover Nawada, Purnia and East Champaran, where two separate schemes will improve more than 26km of local routes.

According to the minister, the developments align with chief minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of reducing travel time to Patna from any part of the state to four hours. The projects are expected to be completed within two years, with tenders to be issued shortly.

Nabin said the new schemes would “give fresh strength to Bihar’s road network, accelerate trade and transportation, and bring measurable improvements in connectivity between rural and urban areas.”
