Patna: Patna Police have successfully apprehended the primary accused in the sensational murder of gangster Chandan Mishra, who was shot dead at Paras Hospital on July 17. The main shooter, Tausif alias Badshah, his cousin Nishu Khan, along with Nishu’s caretaker Harsh, and nursing staff Bhim, were arrested by police from Kolkata, West Bengal. All four are currently being transported back to Patna under heavy police escort and are expected to be presented in court today.

The four arrested criminals are traveling in a black Scorpio, escorted by four police vehicles, on their way to Patna, a journey anticipated to take 1 to 2 hours.

Nishu Khan’s Revelations and Escape Route

Upon his arrest in Kolkata, Nishu Khan claimed that Tausif came to his house after committing the murder. “I had told Tauseef to surrender. The police will harass your family,” Nishu stated. He further alleged that Tausif had promised to surrender on Monday. Nishu also revealed that his girlfriend has been apprehended by the police.

When questioned by journalists about his presence in Kolkata instead of Delhi, Nishu stated, “I had come to Kolkata to pick up my girlfriend.” He disclosed that he met both Tausif and Sheru Singh in Beur jail. Nishu, who is reportedly paralyzed due to a past spinal injury, mentioned that an oxygen cylinder is present in the vehicle due to his condition, and Harsh and Bhim accompanied him for care.

Police investigations have confirmed that the conspiracy to murder Chandan Mishra was hatched at Nishu’s residence. After killing Chandan on the morning of July 17, Tausif fled to Nishu’s house in Samanpura. From there, Tausif, Nishu, Nishu’s girlfriend, Harsh, and Bhim escaped to Kolkata in Nishu’s car, traveling via Gaya, Barhi, and Ranchi. It has been revealed that they had pre-booked a hotel room in Kolkata on July 16, a day before the crime.

Criminal Aspirations and Police Operation

Nishu Khan, a resident of Samanpura in Patna—the same area where Paras Hospital is located and from where the shooters originated—is Tausif’s cousin. Both Tausif, who calls himself ‘Badshah,’ and Nishu, who prefers ‘Bhaijaan’ and dreams of becoming a ‘white collar man,’ are known for making social media reels.

The Patna Police team, with the assistance of Bengal Police, conducted raids at flat numbers 206 and 406 of M-73 and M-74 blocks of Sukhi Vrishti Awasan Apartment in the Shapoorji area of New Town, Kolkata. Five suspects were initially picked up but released after interrogation. The shooters, having caught wind of the police’s approach, fled the city in a white car. This vehicle was tracked via CCTV footage on Basanti Highway and later through Anandpur, Kolkata Leather Complex, and Bhangar, leading to the eventual arrest of the four individuals along with the car.

Police had already pasted notices at the residences of Tausif, Balwant, and Monu on Saturday. The five shooters who executed the crime have been identified as Tausif alias Badshah (a resident of Phulwari), Monu, Balwant, Abhishek, and Nilesh (the latter four from Buxar).

Past Connections to Paras Hospital

Interestingly, both Nishu Khan and Tausif have past connections to Paras Hospital. Nishu was shot in October 2023 in a dispute with his girlfriend, sustaining a spinal injury that left him paralyzed. He received treatment at Paras Hospital. Tausif was also admitted to the same hospital after being shot in the hand once and reportedly used to handle medical claims for patients there.

The police are confident of securing convictions through a speedy trial and anticipate that further investigations will expose more names linked to this gang war and criminal network.
