Patna: Bihar is now slowly changing its image. For many years, the state was known mainly for preparing students for government jobs and civil services. But today, Bihar’s youth are stepping into the world of startups, technology and innovation. One such inspiring story is that of Ravichand Sharma from Saran district’s Chapra town. Ravichand recently appeared on the popular TV show Shark Tank India, where he presented his company, RCX Lighting Private Limited. His journey from a small town to a national platform shows how Bihar’s young minds are now dreaming bigger than ever before.
Ravichand comes from a very simple background. His father works as an electrician, and from a young age, Ravichand developed a deep interest in lights, wires and design. While other children played games, he spent time creating small lighting models and projects. His talent was noticed early, and he won national awards in school competitions held in cities like Chandigarh and Kolkata. These achievements gave him confidence that he could do something unique in life and turn his passion into a career.
After school, Ravichand took admission in BTech Electrical Engineering at Chandigarh University under Bihar government’s student credit card scheme. But during his studies, he felt strongly that he wanted to start his own business instead of working a regular job. With his family’s support, he made the bold decision to drop out of college and focus fully on his dream. Along with his partners Ravi Kumar and Prince Kumar, he started RCX Lighting, a company that creates modern digital display and building lighting systems at affordable costs.
In 2022, RCX received financial support through the Bihar government’s entrepreneurship scheme, which helped the startup grow quickly. Soon, their lighting projects began appearing on big buildings and towers in cities like Mumbai and even in Dubai. Their designs, similar to famous structures like the Burj Khalifa, became their biggest strength. This success brought them to Shark Tank India, where Aman Gupta, founder of Boat, offered them Rs 50 lakh as an investment. Other Sharks also praised their idea and future potential. Ravichand’s success proves that Bihar is no longer just a land of government job dreams — it is now becoming a home for innovation, startups and new opportunities.
