Patna: ChatGPT users are beginning to see a new reaction feature that allows the AI to respond to messages with emoji reactions. The reaction appears separately from the main text response, adding a quick visual response to conversations.
Reactions Based On Context
The feature is designed to select an emoji based on the content and tone of a user’s message. Users do not necessarily need to ask ChatGPT to react each time.
For example, a humorous message could receive a laughter-related reaction, while positive news or an achievement could prompt a celebratory response. Different reactions may also appear during emotional or serious conversations.
The reaction remains separate from ChatGPT’s written answer, making it distinguishable from the main response.
User Suggestion Behind The Feature
The idea for emoji reactions was reportedly suggested by a user on OpenAI’s community forum in August. The proposal called for ChatGPT to react to messages in a way similar to messaging and social media platforms.
The suggestion also included a request for users to have control over whether the reactions were enabled or disabled.
On September 7, OpenAI Support responded to the suggestion, acknowledging the request and saying it would be shared with the relevant team. The company did not specify a rollout date at that stage.
Reactions May Not Appear On Every Message
The feature does not necessarily add a reaction to every user message. Whether a reaction appears can depend on the context and content of the conversation.
This allows the standard text-based interaction to remain unchanged while providing an additional visual response when appropriate.
Is The Feature Available To Everyone?
The reaction feature has started appearing for some ChatGPT users, but there has been no indication of a simultaneous rollout to every user.
New ChatGPT features can be introduced progressively, meaning availability may vary between accounts. Some users may therefore see the reaction option before others.
For now, the feature represents an additional interaction layer in ChatGPT, while the conventional written response remains the primary form of communication.
