Patna: OpenAI has given Indian users a big reason to celebrate. From November 4, 2025, the company’s paid plan, ChatGPT Go, will be available free of cost for an entire year. This means users in India will now be able to access the premium version of ChatGPT without paying the usual monthly fee of Rs 399. The offer aims to make advanced AI tools more accessible to a wider audience and encourage users to experience OpenAI’s new GPT-5 model.
ChatGPT Go was introduced in August as a low-cost alternative to ChatGPT Plus. The plan sits between the free and paid versions and was designed specifically for users who wanted extra features at a lower price. With ChatGPT Go, users can access GPT-5, OpenAI’s latest and most advanced model, along with better image generation tools, enhanced file analysis, and improved creative capabilities. It also includes more space for projects, tasks, and custom GPTs, allowing users to organize and streamline their work more efficiently.
Activating ChatGPT Go for free is simple. Users can log in to ChatGPT on their phone or laptop and look for the “Try Go, Free” option on the homepage. After clicking, they will be redirected to a new page showing all available ChatGPT plans. Selecting “Upgrade to Go for Rs 0” will start the process. Users will then be asked to confirm their UPI, card, or bank details, even though no payment will actually be charged. Once the process is complete, the ChatGPT Go plan will be activated automatically. However, users must remember to turn off the AutoPay option to avoid being charged after the one-year free period ends.
The free ChatGPT Go plan brings many useful benefits. Users will get access to GPT-5, which can handle longer conversations and give more accurate and creative responses. It also includes creative tools for better-quality image generation, advanced data analysis using Python, and a personalized memory feature that remembers your context over time. These additions make ChatGPT Go a strong option for students, professionals, and creators looking to make the most of AI in their daily tasks.
However, there are still a few limitations. The ChatGPT Go plan does not include API access, meaning developers who rely on OpenAI’s API for building apps will need a separate subscription. Older models such as GPT-4 Turbo and features like third-party connectors or Sora (the video generation tool) are not included either. These remain exclusive to the Plus and Pro plans. Also, the GPT-5 “Thinking Mode” runs automatically, so users cannot manually control or extend its reasoning time.
In short, OpenAI’s decision to make ChatGPT Go free for one year is a major step towards expanding AI use in India. It allows millions of users to try advanced features without financial barriers and experience what premium AI tools can do. But users must stay alert — once the free period ends, regular charges will apply unless AutoPay is turned off. Still, for now, this is a golden opportunity to experience the future of AI at no cost.
