Muzaffarpur: A public meeting of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan turned chaotic on Tuesday in Muzaffarpur’s Paru Assembly constituency, after his supporters lost patience following a long wait. The crowd, which had gathered since morning, broke barricades and threw chairs after Paswan arrived nearly five hours behind schedule.
The rally, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Manikpur High School grounds, began only at 4 p.m. when Chirag Paswan finally reached the venue. As soon as he took the stage, the crowd surged forward, breaching the security cordon around the D area and forcing police to intervene.
Eyewitnesses said the delay triggered anger among the supporters who had been waiting under the sun for hours. When the LJP (Ram Vilas) chief finally began speaking, he addressed the gathering for only five minutes, urging voters to support Rashtriya Lok Morcha candidate Madan Chaudhary, before abruptly leaving the venue.
A joint rally featuring Chirag Paswan and BJP MP Ravi Kishan had been planned for the morning, but Kishan did not accompany Paswan to the event.
The situation spiralled out of control as frustrated attendees started throwing chairs and shouting slogans, while police struggled to restore order. No injuries were reported.
Chirag Paswan was also scheduled to campaign later in Sahebganj and Gaighat, but his appearances there remained uncertain following the disruption.
In Sahebganj, the contest has intensified between BJP’s Raju Kumar Singh, representing the NDA, and RJD’s Prithvinath Rai of the Grand Alliance, both ramping up their campaigns in the final stretch before the November 6 polling.
