Patna: In a major leap for India’s fintech sector, PhonePe has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, aiming to integrate ChatGPT-powered AI features into its digital payments app. The move marks the beginning of a new era where artificial intelligence meets everyday transactions, making UPI interactions smarter, faster, and more conversational.
Through this collaboration, users will be able to access AI-driven suggestions and assistance directly within the app. For instance, customers can ask ChatGPT for travel planning advice, compare product details before purchasing, or even analyse spending habits. Business users will also benefit from AI-enabled analytics and customer support, designed to simplify their daily operations.
The integration won’t turn the entire interface into an AI environment but will embed ChatGPT-powered tools at key interaction points, enhancing the user experience without complicating it.
For OpenAI, this partnership represents a significant step into India’s growing digital ecosystem. With PhonePe’s massive user base and its Indus Appstore ecosystem, OpenAI gains an extensive platform to expand its reach across the country.
This collaboration follows OpenAI’s growing focus on India — including plans to open its first office, establish a 1GW data centre, and offer ChatGPT Go subscriptions free for a year.
