Patna: A political storm has erupted in Bihar after RJD MLC Sunil Singh warned that the state could face a situation similar to Nepal, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka if irregularities were detected during the counting of votes. The statement, made amid high political tension, prompted the Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar to order the registration of an FIR against the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader.
In his remarks to the media, Singh alleged that during the 2020 assembly elections, candidates of the Grand Alliance were “forcibly defeated” in several constituencies, including Hilsa, Parihar, and Bhore. He further claimed that in the current election too, the central government pressured officials and “declared the NDA’s victory even as voting was underway”, misleading voters in the process.

Singh said, “If anyone tampers with the people’s mandate, Bihar’s streets will resemble those of Nepal, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka. The public will take to the streets.”
His comments drew strong reactions from the Janata Dal (United), which accused RJD leaders of making provocative and irresponsible remarks ahead of the results.
The Patna Cyber Police Station took suo motu cognizance of the statement after receiving a complaint. ASI Khushboo Kumari filed an application urging the registration of an FIR, stating that Sunil Singh’s comments were inflammatory and could incite public unrest.
