Patna: As Bihar awaits the outcome of its Assembly elections, celebrations have already begun at the Patna residence of Janata Dal (United) candidate and former Mokama MLA Anant Singh. Ahead of Friday’s vote counting, Singh’s team has set up large tents and arranged for a massive feast, reportedly preparing around two lakh rasgullas to mark a possible victory.
On Wednesday, workers erected tents at Singh’s official residence to accommodate his supporters. By Thursday, confectioners had begun preparing sweets using an estimated 200 quintals of milk and 1.5 quintals of khoya. Alongside the rasgullas, arrangements are in place to serve puris, vegetables, pulao, and dal to nearly 20,000 people if the results go in Singh’s favour.
Confident of his chances, Singh has reportedly made “special arrangements” for the celebrations. Supporters from Mokama are expected to arrive in large numbers on the day of the results, with food and hospitality being provided at his Patna residence.
Vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections will commence at 8am on Friday. Mokama, a high-profile constituency in Patna district, recorded a 64.77% voter turnout in the first phase of polling. Singh is contesting against Veena Singh of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), wife of strongman Suraj Bhan Singh, while Jan Suraaj Party’s Piyush Priyadarshi is also in the fray.
The constituency has remained in the spotlight throughout the election season. During the campaign, Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of Piyush Priyadarshi and a local strongman, was murdered — an incident that led to Anant Singh’s arrest and imprisonment. With tensions high and the stakes significant, the Mokama results are being closely watched across Bihar and beyond.
