Ara/Patna: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Friday visited Bilauti village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district to meet the family of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, whose death following a police encounter last month has triggered widespread public and political debate.
During the visit, Paswan assured the family that the matter was being treated seriously and said those found responsible would face action in accordance with the law.
Assures Family Of Justice
Speaking to the bereaved family, Paswan said the government was committed to ensuring justice and stressed that no one found guilty would be protected.
He said maintaining public confidence in the justice system required strict adherence to the rule of law by law enforcement agencies themselves.
“The rule of law is strengthened only when those entrusted with enforcing it also follow it. The manner in which Bharat Tiwari lost his life is unacceptable in any civilised society or democratic system,” Paswan said.
He called for an impartial and time-bound investigation into the incident and demanded the strictest punishment for any official found responsible.
“If officials responsible for maintaining law and order start taking the law into their own hands, people will lose faith in the justice system. I demand an impartial and time-bound investigation, and any official found guilty should be punished without pressure or bias,” he said.

Comments On Officer’s Posting
Responding to questions about the posting of former Jagdishpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajesh Sharma, Paswan said he would raise the matter with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
“If any official is found guilty during the investigation, strict action will be taken against them in accordance with the law,” he said.

Encounter Under Investigation
Bharat Tiwari was shot during a police operation in Bilauti village under Shahpur police station limits on June 17. He later died while undergoing treatment.
Police have maintained that the firing occurred in self-defence during an encounter. However, Tiwari’s family has alleged that he was deliberately killed and has described the incident as murder.
The case drew further attention after a video circulated on social media, which the family claims shows Tiwari being shot after he had lowered his weapon. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified by PatnaPress.
The encounter has since become a major political issue in Bihar, with opposition leaders and several public figures demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tiwari’s death.
