Patna: A letter by Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged the state government to declare Raghopur block in Vaishali district a flood-affected area, citing severe disruption to road connectivity, agriculture, and daily life due to rising water levels in the Gandak and adjoining rivers; Raghopur is represented in the Assembly by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and falls within Paswan’s Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency.

Paswan wrote that multiple villages in Raghopur are “gravely affected” by floodwaters, noting that while local administration is conducting relief and rescue, the situation warrants immediate notification as a flood-hit area to enable maximum assistance through the disaster management department and expedited supply of relief materials to impacted families.
The communication also references the geographical vulnerability of Raghopur’s diara landscape—surrounded by the Ganga system—where recent river swell has triggered acute distress, with evacuations reported in low-lying pockets in recent days, intensifying political focus ahead of state elections.
