Patna: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Union minister Chirag Paswan has said he has no plans to marry, insisting that his focus is on Bihar’s development ahead of the 2025 assembly elections.
Speaking to a digital channel, Paswan, 42, said: “There’s nothing like that. I am moving towards a bigger goal. I am determined to build a developed Bihar. I believe in Bihar First, Bihari First. In such a situation, there is no time for personal commitment. I believe that marriage is a huge responsibility. You cannot take it lightly. When you marry someone and bring them home, you have an accountability towards them. My priority now is the state.”
Paswan, the son of late socialist leader Ram Vilas Paswan, will turn 43 on October 31. Alongside Rahul Gandhi, he remains one of the most high-profile bachelors in Indian politics.
When pressed further on whether he would consider marriage, Paswan said: “I don’t think there is any possibility in the current situation. My younger brother often mentions marriage. He says that now that he has two children, we should too. I don’t think anything like that is going to happen anytime soon.”
His remarks come weeks after Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, speaking in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, advised Chirag to marry soon, smilingly calling him “our elder brother”. Rahul, seated next to him, quipped that the same suggestion applied to him as well.
