Patna: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to strengthen its drone and counter-drone capabilities at sensitive installations in Bihar amid growing security concerns linked to unmanned aerial systems.
The initiative will cover key facilities under CISF security, including the airports in Patna, Darbhanga and Gaya, as well as the NTPC facility at Barh.
The CISF has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Drone Federation of India (DFI) to improve training, operational preparedness and the use of drone-related technologies.
Behror Training Centre To Become Centre Of Excellence
Under the agreement, the CISF’s Regional Training Centre in Behror, Rajasthan, will be developed as a Centre of Excellence for drone and counter-drone systems.
Personnel will be trained in identifying and tracking suspicious drones, deploying countermeasures and conducting forensic analysis of drone-related incidents.
The training is intended to improve the force’s ability to detect and respond to potential drone threats around sensitive installations.
SOP And Joint Drills Planned
The MoU also provides for the preparation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for deploying counter-drone systems.
The CISF and DFI will conduct pilot projects, joint drills and red-teaming exercises to assess preparedness against drone-related threats in simulated operational situations.
The exercises will focus on strengthening the response chain from drone detection and identification to appropriate countermeasures.
Agreement Signed In New Delhi
The agreement was signed at the CISF headquarters in New Delhi by Dr CD Nayak, DIG and Principal of MPRTC Behror, representing the CISF, and Smit Shah, president of the Drone Federation of India.
CISF director general Praveer Ranjan, ADG (North) Sudhir Kumar, ADG (Headquarters) Vijay Prakash and other senior officials attended the signing ceremony.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the technological and operational framework used by the CISF to address drone-related security concerns at critical installations, including airports and energy facilities in Bihar.
