CM Nitish, BJP Cancel All Programs as Former Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi Passes Away

Patna: Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Sushil Kumar Modi, passed away on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at Delhi AIIMS. He was 72 years old and had been battling throat cancer for some time. Modi had been undergoing treatment at Delhi AIIMS since cancer was detected about seven months ago, following complaints of throat pain.

The mortal remains of Sushil Modi are set to arrive in Patna from Delhi at 12 noon on Tuesday via a special flight. Upon arrival, his mortal remains will be taken directly to his home in Rajendra Nagar for the final respects. Following this, the last rites will be conducted at Gulbi Ghat in Patna, with BJP National President JP Nadda scheduled to participate. Nadda is expected to arrive in Patna at 4 pm.

The schedule for paying respects to Sushil Modi includes a period from 2 to 3 pm during which his mortal remains will be kept at his residence and then at the party office. Subsequently, the Legislative Council will be visited, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other MLAs will pay their tributes.

The news of Sushil Modi’s demise has triggered widespread mourning in Bihar and Delhi. Numerous dignitaries, including the President, Prime Minister, BJP National President, and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav, have expressed their condolences. BJP leader Ashwini Choubey, in an emotional tribute, reminisced about Sushil Modi, while Chirag Paswan termed his passing a double loss.

In response to the sad news, Bihar BJP has canceled all scheduled programs for the day. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has similarly canceled all his engagements, including his participation in the nomination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, today marks the death anniversary of Nitish Kumar’s wife, further prompting the cancellation of the commemorative event.

At the BJP office, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary and Ravi Shankar Prasad have arrived to pay their respects. Reflecting on Sushil Modi’s legacy, Ravi Shankar Prasad praised his steadfastness, particularly during challenging times such as the fodder scam. Prasad highlighted Modi’s resilience and commitment to principles, urging others to emulate his dedication to public service and integrity.
