Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Mango Festival 2025 on Saturday at Gyan Bhawan in Patna’s Samrat Ashok Convention Centre. He cut the ribbon and lit the lamp to begin the two-day event. After the inauguration, he visited stalls set up by mango farmers from different districts and asked them about their mango varieties and production methods.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha welcomed the Chief Minister with a memento, while Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department Pankaj Kumar gave him a mango sapling. Around 800 mango farmers have participated in this festival, bringing about 5,000 exhibits to display. The festival will run till 29 June and includes competitions like ‘Eat mangoes and get rewards’ for farmers and children, with cash prizes for winners.
The main attraction of the Mango Festival is the display of different types of mangoes grown in Bihar. Visitors can see famous mangoes like Maldah, Zardalu, Gulabkhas, Langra, Dussehri, Alphonso, Fazli and many others. The Agriculture Department has been organising this festival for many years to promote mango farming in the state and support farmers.
Bihar produces mangoes on a large scale, with orchards spread over 1.65 lakh hectares. Mango production has increased by 82% since 2007 due to government schemes like the Mango Development Scheme. The festival gives farmers a chance to connect with traders, scientists and exporters. The government hopes this event will encourage innovation and better income for mango growers in Bihar.
