Patna: The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Limited (COMFED), known for its popular Sudha brand, is experiencing rapid expansion and has begun establishing a global footprint. Once processing just 8 lakh litres of milk a day, COMFED now boasts a processing capacity of 54.05 lakh litres per day.
At present, the federation produces 1,22 metric tons of milk powder and 1,060 metric tons of animal feed each day. Currently, it collects 23 lakh litres of milk daily through 20,885 milk-producing cooperative societies.
COMFED’s growing infrastructure includes automated and modern plants like Rohtas Dairy (Dehri on Sone), Samastipur Dairy, Supaul Dairy, Hajipur Dairy, and Barauni Dairy. These new facilities alone contribute an additional 20 lakh litres of daily milk processing capacity.
From being a regional dairy federation, COMFED is now active in the national and international market. Its products are distributed across Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi NCR, the North East, Uttar Pradesh, and Kolkata through a network of 30,540 retailers. Sudha-branded products were recently exported to the United States and Canada, marking COMFED’s debut in international trade.
In addition to liquid milk, COMFED markets a wide range of dairy products such as pouch, elister, and tetra pack milk; plain and misti curd; various types of lassi and buttermilk; paneer; and sweets like rasgulla, gulab jamun, kalakand, and peda. Its offerings also include flavoured milk, ice cream in over 55 varieties, mozzarella cheese, Sudha-branded bread, cookies, bhujia, mineral water, and even traditional items like makhana kheer, thekua, and tilkut.
