Patna: Police have arrested the man who shot and killed Bihar’s well-known industrialist Gopal Khemka. The accused has been identified as Umesh, a resident of Patna City. He was caught by a special team of Patna Police during their investigation.
The murder took place late on Friday night when Khemka was shot dead at the gate of his apartment near Gandhi Maidan. CCTV footage showed that the shooter was waiting near the gate before attacking him. The incident created fear among the business community in Patna.
The investigation was led by Patna Range IG Jitendra Rana. Senior officers, including SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, also reached the spot after the arrest. Police are now interrogating Umesh to find out who hired him and why Khemka was targeted.
During raids in Beur on Saturday afternoon, the police recovered three mobile phones and a paper with many phone numbers written on it. Officials said the murder plan might have links to people inside Beur Jail, and raids are continuing at other locations based on the information gathered so far.
