Patna: The effects of Cyclone Montha are being felt across several districts of Bihar, with Patna witnessing continuous heavy rain since early morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for 26 districts, warning residents to stay cautious as the system moves northward from the Bay of Bengal.

According to officials, an orange alert has been declared for seven districts, while yellow alerts are in effect for 19 others. During this period, wind speeds may reach up to 40 kilometers per hour, accompanied by lightning in some regions. The sky is expected to remain overcast, bringing light to moderate rainfall in many parts of the state, including Patna.

Meteorologists said the weather is likely to clear up from November 2, after which the minimum temperature may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, rain was reported across most parts of Bihar, except for Aurangabad, Banka, and Katihar. Supaul district recorded the highest rainfall at 65.4 mm in the past 24 hours, followed by Forbesganj with 31.4 mm. The rising water level of the Kosi River has also raised concern among local authorities.

The Patna Meteorological Centre said Cyclone Montha is moving towards North Bihar and will have its greatest impact in the northeastern and Seemanchal regions. “Rain intensity is expected to increase further from Friday night to Saturday,” officials said, urging farmers to prevent waterlogging in their fields and avoid working outdoors during heavy rain and lightning.

Satellite imagery shows Cyclone Montha covering an area of nearly 300 kilometers.

Meanwhile, localities such as Begusarai are already facing severe waterlogging following overnight rainfall. In Nalanda, dark clouds continue to hover over the region, with intermittent showers reported since morning.

Residents are advised to follow official weather updates and exercise caution as Cyclone Montha continues to affect the state.
