Patna: A 27-year-old man employed at Darbhanga Airport died after being struck by a train between Patna Junction and the Karbigahiya Bridge on Sunday evening, railway police said.
The incident occurred at around 7pm. According to officials, the man entered the railway tracks in front of an approaching train and suffered fatal injuries.
Railway police reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Victim Identified Through Mobile Phone
Investigators recovered a mobile phone from the deceased’s pocket during the preliminary inquiry.
As the device was not locked, police were able to contact numbers stored in the phone and subsequently identified the deceased as Mona Kumar, 27, a resident of Sigariyawan in Patna district.
Further inquiries revealed that Kumar was employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) member at Darbhanga Airport.
Family Informed
Railway DSP Bhaskar Ranjan said the deceased’s family had been informed about the incident and that a detailed investigation was underway.
During the inquiry, police learned that Kumar had reportedly been experiencing mental health difficulties for some time. Officials also said he had previously survived an earlier suicide attempt after intervention by others.
Police said they are examining all aspects of the case and awaiting the post-mortem report as part of the investigation.
