Darbhanga: Flight operations at Darbhanga Airport came to a complete halt on Saturday morning due to adverse weather conditions. Continuous rain and poor visibility made it unsafe for flights to land or take off. As a result, all flights to and from Darbhanga were delayed till noon, affecting hundreds of passengers waiting to travel to different destinations. Despite knowing about the weather conditions, many passengers arrived at the airport early in the morning, hoping that flights would operate on time. However, as hours passed without any movement, tension began to grow among them.
By midday, the airport premises were filled with restless passengers. People crowded around airline counters, demanding updates on their flights. Many passengers expressed anger and disappointment as there was no clear information about when operations would resume. Airline staff tried to manage the situation, but the constant rain and cloudy skies kept the runway closed for several hours. The mood at the airport was tense, as families with children and elderly travellers waited anxiously for announcements.
Finally, some relief came in the afternoon. An Akasa Air flight from Mumbai became the first to land at 2:28pm, more than an hour late from its scheduled time. Soon after, other flights began to arrive one by one. A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai landed at 3:20pm, over three hours late, while flights from Delhi and Hyderabad also started reaching Darbhanga. As aircraft began to move again, passengers who had been waiting for hours finally felt a sense of relief. Smiles returned as the sound of engines replaced the silence of the morning.
According to airport officials, a total of 12 flights operated on Saturday despite the disruption. Akasa flight QP 1405 from Delhi was cancelled in advance, and passengers were informed beforehand to prevent inconvenience. Indigo’s flight from Hyderabad arrived at 4:39pm, delayed by more than two hours, while a Delhi-bound Indigo flight surprisingly landed four minutes early. By evening, the weather had improved, and the airport returned to normal operations. Although the day tested the patience of many travellers, it ended with safe landings and departures as the skies finally cleared over Darbhanga.
