Darbhanga/Patna : Night landing infrastructure at Darbhanga airport is now ready, and operations are expected to begin once the required manpower is deployed, airport officials said on Monday.
Speaking during a Passenger Facilitation Day event, airport director Dilip Kumar said the technical systems required for night landing have been installed and the airport authority has been requested to provide the necessary personnel.
He said the facility would help reduce disruptions for passengers, especially during winter when fog and poor weather often affect flight schedules.
Improved visibility systems in place
According to the airport administration, Darbhanga airport now has operational visibility support for up to 550 metres, a key requirement for night-time and low-visibility landings.
Officials said the new system would strengthen operational efficiency and minimise inconvenience caused by adverse weather conditions.
New terminal building nearing completion
The under-construction terminal building has completed around 68% of its work and is likely to be handed over in November, Kumar said.
The new facility is expected to include upgraded passenger amenities, including seating areas, Wi-Fi, a library, drinking water, food counters and dedicated spaces for Mithila paintings and makhana products.
A police outpost is also planned as part of the expanded infrastructure.
Focus on Mithila art and culture
Airport officials said the new terminal is being designed to showcase Mithila art, culture and architecture as part of efforts to strengthen the region’s cultural identity.
The three-storey terminal building is being developed as a modern facility aimed at improving passenger experience and handling future traffic growth.
Flight delays continue on some routes
Meanwhile, some flights from Delhi and Mumbai operated by SpiceJet reported delays on Monday, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Airport authorities said a total of 18 flights operated to and from Darbhanga on routes connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bengaluru during the day.
